What Does the Mollie Connector Do?
The Mollie connector connects your Tribe account to your Mollie payment account, enabling you to collect invoice payments in two ways:
Pay links: a one-time payment link sent to a client so they can pay an invoice at their convenience
Recurring payments by credit card: automatic collection from a saved card on file, with no manual action required per invoice
Both methods can be used simultaneously. You choose per subscription which approach suits each client.
Prerequisites
Before activating the connector, confirm the following are in place:
The Invoicing module is installed on your Tribe account
You have an active Mollie account (create one at mollie.com)
Your sending email domain is validated in Tribe (required to send payment notifications to clients)
No other payment connector is currently active. Only one connector can be active per account at a time.
How to Activate the Mollie Connector
Navigate to Marketplace in your Tribe settings.
Locate the Mollie connector and click Activate.
Authenticate using your Mollie account credentials.
The connector settings page will open automatically once authentication is complete.
How to Configure the Connector
Payment modes
Under Payment configuration, select the modes you wish to enable:
Pay links: for one-time invoice payment links
Recurring payments by credit card: for automatic collection via mandate
Both are enabled by default. At least one mode must remain active.
Toggle Test mode on to validate your setup before going live.
Notifications
Under Notification settings, select or create the sender email address (must belong to a validated domain).
Choose which team members receive in-app notifications for failed payments and credit card limit alerts.
Note: Notification templates are pre-configured in 10 languages. No additional setup is required.
Invoice status automation (optional)
Under Invoice status after payment, select the status Tribe should automatically apply once a Mollie payment succeeds (for example, "Paid", or a custom status for ERP reconciliation).
Leave this blank if you prefer to update invoice statuses manually.
How to Use a Pay Link
Pay links allow clients to pay an invoice via a secure hosted payment page.
Add a payment button to your invoice email template. This works in the same way as an approval link.
When you send the invoice email, Tribe generates a payment link and includes it in the message.
When the client clicks the link, a payment request is created in Mollie for the invoice amount.
Once the client pays, the payment is recorded on the invoice in Tribe.
Note: Pay links support all payment methods available in your Mollie account. Invoice status is not changed automatically upon payment unless you have configured automatic status updates in the connector settings. This is intentional to avoid interfering with financial integrations.
Note: Mollie pay links are valid for 30–60 minutes after generation.
How to Set Up Recurring Payments
Recurring payments allow Tribe to automatically charge a client's saved credit card each time an invoice is due.
Requesting a payment method from a client
Open a Subscription in Tribe.
Go to the Payment Method tab (visible when recurring payments are enabled in the connector).
Click Request payment method. Tribe sends a secure email to the billing contact with a link to add their card.
The client completes a secure 0€ setup transaction via Mollie's hosted interface to save their card.
Once the client completes setup, auto-collection activates automatically for that subscription.
From this point, all invoices linked to the subscription are collected automatically. No further action is required per invoice.
Turning off auto-collection
Auto-collection can only be switched on by the client completing the mandate.
Internal users can switch it off at any time from the Payment Method tab. Doing so deletes the mandate and stops all future automatic charges.
Client self-service
Clients can add or update their saved card at any time using the secure link. No involvement from your team is needed.
How to Handle Failed Payments
Automatic retry schedule
When a recurring payment fails, Tribe retries automatically on the following schedule:
Retry | Timing |
First retry | Day +1 |
Second retry | Day +3 |
Third retry | Day +7 |
Your team receives an in-app notification with a direct link to the invoice. The client receives an email with a link to update their card.
Credit card limit exceeded
If an invoice amount (including VAT) exceeds Mollie's credit card transaction limit:
No payment attempt is made
Your team is notified via in-app notification
The client sees a banner in the client portal prompting them to contact you
The account is not blocked and other invoices are unaffected
Note: Invoices that exceed the credit card limit must be settled manually or via pay link.
How to Monitor Payment Limitations
All payments, whether collected via recurring auto-collection, pay link, or recorded manually, are stored in a unified payments table, giving a complete view of all invoice payments regardless of method.
View payment status, history, and card details from the Payment Method tab on any subscription
In-app notifications alert your team to failed payments and credit card limit issues in real time
