When a contact changes jobs, their relationship with organisations in Tribe needs to be updated to reflect this. Rather than creating a new contact record, Tribe allows you to link the same person to a new organisation while preserving their history with the previous one. This keeps your CRM data accurate and ensures you maintain a complete 360-degree view of every contact. This guide walks you through how to move a contact from one organisation to another.
Moving a Contact to a New Organisation
Open the organisation the person is moving to.
Scroll down in the left side panel and locate the Contact section.
Click the + icon on the right side of the Contact label or the + Contacts button.
Type in and select the name of the person being moved.
Update the contact details that belong to their new role, such as their job title, email address, or phone number, and click Save.
Open the contact card associated with the previous organisation.
Navigate to Details and enable the Former toggle button to mark that relationship as inactive.
Note! Never delete the relationship with the previous organisation. CRM is about building historical data, so it is important to keep that history intact.
Quick Summary
When a contact moves to a new organisation, you link them to the new organisation and update their details accordingly. The relationship with their previous organisation is marked as former rather than deleted, preserving the full history of that connection. This way, the contact remains registered once in Tribe but is linked to both organisations — one active and one inactive.
