Manage Fields lets you adjust the field layout of a record, such as a Contact or Sales opportunity, directly from that record. It covers showing and hiding fields, reordering them, adding field groups, creating fields, and renaming certain fields and groups. You might use it when a record is missing a field your team needs, or when the current layout no longer matches how you work. By following this guide, you will understand what Manage Fields does, where to find it, and how to use each of its options.

What Does Manage Fields Do?
Manage Fields opens a panel on the record you are viewing, showing the fields currently displayed in the Details tab for that entity type.
From this panel, you can do the following actions, without navigating to Configuration;
Show or hide fields, using the visibility toggle next to each field
Create fields, by giving the field a name and selecting its type
Reorder fields, by dragging them into a new position within a group
Rename group names, for groups that allow renaming
Rename fields, for fields that allow renaming
Note: Manage Fields changes apply to the layout for that entity type, so adjustments affect every record of that type, not just the one you are viewing.

Manage Fields is available to admin users, or users with permission to manage fields.
Note: If you do not have this permission, the Manage Fields option will not appear in the gear icon menu on the Details tab.

Note: Changes are staged as you make them and only take effect once you select Save. The record page reflects the updated layout as soon as you save.
Making Structural Changes
Manage Fields covers the day-to-day adjustments described above. For structural changes that fall outside its scope, such as deleting a group or changing advanced field settings, select the link at the bottom of the panel. This takes you directly to the relevant Configuration page, where you can continue the change.
