How Do I Manage Tabs and Pages on an Entity Page?

Entity pages in Tribe are organised into tabs and pages, and an administrator now arranges them to match the way your team works. Reordering, renaming, hiding and regrouping navigation items keeps the content you use every day close at hand and the content you rarely open out of the way. Use this guide when you want to tidy the navigation of an entity type for your whole organisation. By following it, you will learn how to open manage mode, change the layout and save it.

What Are Tabs and Pages?

An entity page is the page of a single record, for example a person, an organisation or an activity. Its navigation has two levels:

  • Tab: a container in the top row. A tab holds one or more pages and never sits inside another tab.

  • Page: a unit of content in the row below the tabs. Each page belongs to exactly one tab.

Tribe provides system tabs such as Dashboard, Activities, Tracking, Relations and Details. System tabs and pages can be hidden, renamed and reordered, but only custom tabs and pages can be deleted.

The Tracking tab groups the pages that record work and costs, such as Hours, Products and Kilometres.

Note: Not every entity type has every tab. For example, a person has no Relations tab, and custom entities have no Tracking tab by default.

Prerequisites for Managing Tabs and Pages

Before you start, check that the following applies to you:

  • You are an administrator, and your role has no additional restrictions on this area.

  • You are working on a desktop or a tablet. Mobile devices show the result of your changes but do not offer the management options.

Note: Changes apply to all records of the entity type and are visible to everyone in your organisation. Personal layouts are not available.

How to Open Manage Mode?

  1. Open a record of the entity type you want to change, for example a person.

  2. Click the three dots menu aligned with the tab row.

  3. Select Manage tabs and pages. Hover over the info icon next to it to see a reminder that changes apply to all records of this entity type.

Once you are in manage mode, the page content greys out, and the following elements appear:

  • A floating bar under the tab row with Reset to default, Cancel, Save and a warning icon.

  • A drag handle and a three dots menu on every tab and page.

  • A + button on the tab row.

How to Create a Tab?

  1. Open a record of the entity type you want to change.

  2. Click the + button on the tab row in manage mode, or select New tab from the three dots menu.

  3. Enter a Name. This field is required. If your organisation uses several languages, use the language flag to enter the name in each one.

  4. Select an Icon for your new tab.

  5. Click Save.

The new tab opens and is added at the end of the tab row. It appears on every record of this entity type, for everyone in your organisation.

A new tab starts without pages and shows a message that it has no content to display. To fill it, drag existing pages into it, as described in How to Move a Page to Another Tab?

Did you know? A new tab is a custom tab, so you can hide, rename, reorder and delete it later.

How to Hide, Unhide or Rename a Tab or Page?

Hide or unhide

  1. Enter manage mode.

  2. Click the three dots menu of the tab or page.

  3. Select Hide.

A hidden tab or page shows an eye icon before its three dots menu while you are in manage mode. To show it again, click on eye icon or open the same menu and select Unhide. Hidden items disappear from the default view once you click Save, but remain visible in manage mode.

Hiding a tab also hides all its pages. When you unhide the tab, its pages return, and each page keeps its own state: a page that was hidden before stays hidden.

Rename

  1. Enter manage mode.

  2. Click the three dots menu of the tab or page.

  3. Select Rename.

  4. Enter the new Name. This field is required, and an empty name cannot be saved. If several languages are set, a field appears for each of them.

  5. For a tab, change the Icon if needed.

  6. Click Save in the dialog.

The new name is added to your draft. It applies to every record of the entity type after you click Save in the floating bar.

How to Reorder Tabs and Pages?

  1. Enter manage mode.

  2. To reorder tabs, hold the drag handle of a tab and move it along the top row.

  3. To reorder pages, hold the drag handle of a page and move it within its own tab.

  4. Release the mouse button when the placeholder shows the position you want.

While you drag, a deep blue placeholder shows where the item will land. Reordering hidden items works the same way as reordering visible ones.

Note: The pages inside the Details, such as General, Communication and Billing, are field groups. They keep their current order and cannot be moved out of that tab.

How to Move a Page to Another Tab?

  1. Enter manage mode and select the tab that holds the page.

  2. Hold the drag handle of the page and move it towards the tab where it should go. Tabs that cannot accept the page turn grey.

  3. Hold the page over the target tab for about one second. A valid tab is highlighted and shows the tooltip "Move into this tab". A tab that cannot accept the page is highlighted in red.

  4. Release the mouse button over a valid tab.

  5. Click Save in the floating bar.

Pages can be moved into Activities, Tracking and custom tabs. They cannot be moved into Dashboard, Relations or Details. System pages can be moved as well as custom pages.

How to Delete a Custom Tab?

  1. Enter manage mode.

  2. Click the three dots menu of the custom tab.

  3. Select Delete.

  4. Read the confirmation message, then click Delete to confirm or Cancel to keep the item.

  5. Click Save in the floating bar.

The item disappears from your view as soon as you confirm, but the deletion applies only after you click Save. Deleting a custom page also removes its content, and a deletion cannot be undone once it is saved.

Note: The Delete option appears only for custom tabs. System tabs and pages can never be deleted, only hidden. If you delete a custom tab that holds system pages, those pages move to the Tracking tab once you click Save.

If you delete the tab or page you are viewing, Tribe opens the first visible tab.

How to Reset Tabs to the System Default?

  1. Enter manage mode.

  2. Click Reset to default in the floating bar.

  3. Read the Reset tabs to system default message, then click Confirm. Click Cancel to leave everything as it is.

  4. Review the result in manage mode.

  5. Click Save to apply it.

A reset does the following:

  • Returns system tabs and pages to their default order, names and visibility.

  • Moves all custom pages under the Tracking tab. If the entity type has no Tracking tab by default, Tribe adds one to hold them. No page content is lost.

  • Deletes custom tabs.

  • Leaves your Details fields sidebar as it is.

The reset appears straight away in manage mode, but it applies to your organisation only after you click Save.

How to Save or Cancel Your Changes?

  • Click Save in the floating bar to store all your changes and leave manage mode. The new layout applies to every record of the entity type, for everyone in your organisation.

  • Click Cancel to discard all unsaved changes and leave manage mode.

If two administrators save different changes, both sets of changes are kept.

What Do Users See After You Save?

Tribe applies the following rules in the default view:

  • A tab with one visible page shows that page's content directly, without a row of pages. The page remains visible as a sub-tab in manage mode only.

  • A tab with two or more visible pages shows the pages as sub-tabs.

  • A tab with no pages, or with all its pages hidden, shows a message that the tab has no content to display.

  • A hidden tab does not appear, and neither do its pages.

These rules apply to every record of the entity type. On mobile, users see the same layout, but the management options are not available.

Troubleshooting

I Cannot See the Three Dots Menu

The menu is visible only to administrators on a desktop or tablet. Check your role and your device, then contact your Tribe administrator or our support team if the menu is still missing.

I Cannot Drop a Page Into a Tab

Pages cannot be moved into Dashboard, Relations or Details. Choose Activities, Tracking or a custom tab instead.

A Tab or Page Has Disappeared

It may be hidden. Enter manage mode, look for the eye icon, open the three dots menu of the item and select Unhide. If you unhide a tab and one of its pages is still missing, that page was hidden separately and needs to be unhidden too.

A Tab Shows a Message That It Has No Content

The tab either holds no pages or all its pages are hidden. Unhide a page, or drag a page into the tab from another tab.

Quick Summary

Tab management lets administrators reorder, rename, hide, create, delete and regroup the tabs and pages of an entity type. Every change is prepared in manage mode and applies to all records of that entity type, for everyone in your organisation, only after you click Save. If you want to start again, Reset to default returns the layout to the system defaults and keeps your custom pages under the Tracking tab.
