Emailing through your own mail server allows you to send emails from Tribe using your organisation’s existing mail infrastructure. This is useful when company policy does not allow emails to be sent through external mail servers or API-based delivery. You would use this setup instead of standard domain validation when full control over mail flow is required. By following this guide, you will understand what the SMTP relay does and how to set it up in Tribe.

What Does The SMTP Relay Do?
The SMTP relay allows Tribe to deliver outgoing emails to your organisation’s own mail server. From there, your mail server handles delivery to recipients. This replaces the standard method where Tribe sends emails through its own mail platform after domain validation.
Why Or When Should You Use It?
You should use an SMTP relay when your organisation requires all outgoing mail to pass through its own mail server. This often applies when strict security or compliance rules are in place. It also allows greater control over authentication, routing, and mail headers.
Note: SMTP relay settings can only be configured by system administrators and require access to your mail server.
Step By Step Instructions
Open Marketplace from the top-right menu in Tribe.
Select the Email And Calendar tab.
Click the SMTP Link.
Enter the Email Domain details.
Enter a valid Email Address to receive the domain validation link.
Open the validation email and click the link to confirm the domain.
Enter the required SMTP Settings, including authentication and port details.
Add an optional X-Header if required by your organisation.
Enter an Email Address to receive a test email.
Open the test email and click the confirmation link to complete setup.
Repeat these steps to add additional domains if needed.
Technical Specifications
The SMTP relay setup supports the following options:
Basic authentication
Custom port numbers
Optional X-headers
Multiple domains on a single mail server
These options allow the mail flow to be configured to match your organisation’s requirements.
Quick Summary
Emailing through an SMTP relay lets Tribe send emails via your own mail server. This is useful when standard domain validation is not suitable due to security or compliance rules. Once configured by a system administrator, Tribe delivers emails to your mail server, which then handles final delivery.
