How Do I Capture LinkedIn Contacts Into Tribe CRM?

The Tribe CRM – Lead Capture from LinkedIn extension lets you capture contact details directly from LinkedIn profile pages. It reads the name, title, company, and profile details, and checks whether the person already exists in your database. Use it when prospecting or researching contacts on LinkedIn and adding them to Tribe without leaving the page. This guide covers installing the extension, capturing a new contact, and handling matches with existing records.

What Does This Feature Do?

The Tribe CRM – Lead Capture from LinkedIn extension is a standalone Chrome extension, separate from the existing Tribe CRM Gmail Add-in (previously called “Tribe CRM”).

When you open a LinkedIn profile page, it extracts the visible contact fields: name, title, company, and profile URL. It then checks whether that person already exists in Tribe, first by matching the LinkedIn profile URL, then by matching the name. Depending on the result, you can open the existing record, create a new Lead, or merge with a similar record.

Prerequisites

Note: Were you using the Tribe CRM Gmail add in extension for LinkedIn (previously called “Tribe CRM”)? Make sure to uninstall it from LinkedIn and install the Tribe CRM - Lead Capture from LinkedIn. Running both at the same time on LinkedIn can cause a clash.

How to Capture a Contact From LinkedIn

  1. Navigate to a LinkedIn profile page.

  2. The extension checks for an existing match using the profile's LinkedIn URL.

  3. If a match is found, select Open in Tribe to go straight to the existing record.

  4. If no URL match is found, the extension searches by name. If no similar record exists, select Add to Tribe to open the capture panel.

  5. Review the extracted fields in the capture panel.

  6. Select the correct company from the Company dropdown. This list is built from the person's Experience section on LinkedIn, with their current company preselected.

  7. Review the Title field. This is an editable box that suggests past titles held at the selected company, prefilled with the most recent one. Edit it if needed.

  8. Select Add to Tribe to save the record.
Tribe creates the new record automatically based on your environment's setup.

    1. For environments that have Lead Activity enabled, the record will be created as a new Lead Activity.

    2. For environments that do not have the Lead Activity enabled, the record will be created as either:

      1. a Contact of an Organisation Lead if a company was detected

      2. or as an Individual Lead

The source is set to LinkedIn in every case.

How Duplicate Matches Are Handled

If the extension finds one or more similar records when searching by name, it shows an alert stating how many similar records were found, along with two options:

  1. Select Create New to add the contact as a new Lead regardless of the similar records shown. The new record follows the same environment-based logic described above (Activity Lead, Contact of an organisation Lead, or Individual Lead).

  2. Select Merge to combine the LinkedIn data with an existing record.

Note: If there are no conflicting fields between the LinkedIn data and the existing record, the merge happens automatically. If there are conflicts, you will be asked to choose which data to keep for each conflicting field.

Where Is This Feature Displayed?

The extension panel appears directly on LinkedIn profile pages once installed and authenticated. Captured contacts are saved to Tribe CRM as Leads, with the exact record type (Activity Lead, Contact of an organisation Lead, or Individual Lead) depending on your environment's setup, as described above.

Quick Summary

The Tribe CRM – Lead Capture from LinkedIn extension lets you capture contact details from a LinkedIn profile page and add them to Tribe as a Lead. It checks for existing matches by LinkedIn URL and then by name before creating a new record, and offers a merge option when similar records are found. The type of Lead record created (Activity Lead, Contact of an organisation Lead, or Individual Lead) depends on your environment's setup. Company and title fields are prefilled from the person's LinkedIn Experience section but can be reviewed and adjusted before saving.
