Emailing through your own mail server (email relay server)
Emailing through your own mail server (email relay server)
Updated over 2 months ago

When you mail from Tribe CRM, it is normally necessary to perform a domain validation. This sends the mail from your own domain. More information on this can be found in the article Emailing with a company domain. Some companies choose to do mail handling outside the Tribe mail servers, this is possible using the SMTP server link. You can read more about this in this article.

  1. What does the SMTP server linking involve?

  2. Technical specifications

  3. How do I set up the link?

Please note! The settings for this link can only be made by system administrators. In addition to the settings in Tribe, it is also necessary to make the correct settings on the mail server.

1 What does the link with SMTP server entail?

For standard domain validation, it is necessary to add SPF and DMARC records. A mail is then sent through the API to the mail platform, which also sends messages back to Tribe.

Within some organisations this is not allowed, in which case an SMTP server link can be used. Tribe then delivers the mail to an SMTP relay server of your company and it is then delivered to the correct recipient.

2 Technical specifications

With this SMTP link for using your own relay mail server, you have control over your mail flow. The link takes the following points into account:

  • the option of basic authentication

  • the option of setting a different port number

  • the option of setting an X-header

  • the option of setting up multiple domains on 1 mail server

3 How do I set up the link?

  1. Open the marketplace at the top right.

  2. Navigate to the e-mail and calendar tab.

  3. Click on the SMTP link.

  4. Enter the email domain details and a valid email address to receive the domain validation link.

  5. Click on the link in the received e-mail. Step 2 is thereby completed.

  6. Enter the required SMTP settings. Here it is possible to add an additional X-header.

  7. Enter an e-mail address for sending a test e-mail.

  8. Click on the link in the received e-mail. Step 5 is now complete.

It is also possible to add several domains. Repeat the steps for adding an additional domain.
